Quick estimate on a card
Estimate one card from its panel without starting a session, on a Laya board or a connected Jira board: vote, reveal, and set the card’s estimate.
Last updated
For a single card you don’t need a whole session. Quick estimate lets everyone who can see a card vote on it from the card’s panel, then sets the card’s estimate. It never creates a SprintPoker session.
It is on the cards of Laya boards and of boards connected to Jira, in team workspaces (a personal workspace has no one else to vote with). A card on a board connected to Azure DevOps, GitHub, GitLab or monday.com opens that tool’s own side panel, which has no quick estimate.
How it works
- Open the cardOpen the card and find the SprintPoker group in its panel.
- VotePick a card under Your estimate: the hand uses the board’s own scale. Nobody sees another vote until the votes are revealed. Press your card again to take your vote back.
- RevealAnyone who voted can press Reveal votes. Everyone then sees the votes, a chart and a suggested value. Hide votes turns them face down again.
- Set the estimateThe Set Effort to button writes the value to the card’s Estimate. The panel then shows who set it, and when.
On a connected Jira board
A card on a board connected to Jira has the same SprintPoker section in its panel. The hand is your workspace’s first estimation preset (a Time preset when the board estimates in time), and the button names the Jira field it writes, for example Set Story Points to. It writes that field in Jira as you, with your own Atlassian account, when that works: Jira’s own permissions decide, and if Jira refuses, the panel says why. Without Jira access of your own that works, it writes through the workspace’s Jira connection, as edits on the board do, when you may edit the board’s issues. When neither can, the panel offers Link your Atlassian account, or Connect your Jira access when your account is already linked. A time field gets its original and remaining estimate.
An issue your own Jira account can’t see shows no quick estimate.
Reset starts a new round for everyone, clearing every vote including yours. Revealing, hiding and resetting are for the people who voted in the round, and setting the estimate needs permission to edit the card. Votes, reveals and estimates show up live in everyone’s open panel.
Turn it on or off for a board
Quick estimate is on for every Laya board unless someone turns it off. Open Board settings, go to the Effort scale tab and find the SprintPoker section: Quick estimate on cards turns it on or off, and the suggestion can come from the Median (the default), Average, rounded down, Most common vote, Highest vote or Lowest vote. Changing it needs permission to change the board’s settings. On a board connected to Jira it is always on, and the suggestion is the median.
