This guide takes you from installing the app to a rule that has run safely on a test issue. It takes about ten minutes.
Before you start
- A Jira Cloud site. The app is for Jira Cloud only.
- A Jira administrator to install the app.
- A project you can use for testing, so your first rule only touches a test issue.
Install the app
- Open the listingOpen the app's Marketplace listing, or search for Laya WorkflowOS in Jira's own app finder under Apps.
- InstallStart the free trial or buy the app, review the permissions it asks for, and confirm. Installing needs a Jira administrator.
- Open the appOpen Apps, then Laya WorkflowOS. The Dashboard loads, with the menu on the left: Dashboard, Rules, Shared actions, Templates, Search & Automate, Advanced Export, Activity, Insights and Settings.
Who can do what
Rules change Jira as the app, so the app keeps rule authoring to people you trust. By default, only Jira administrators can manage rules.
| Task | Who can do it |
|---|---|
| Open the app and use Search & Automate | Everyone on the site. Search runs as you, so you only see issues you can browse in Jira. |
| Create, edit, publish, test and delete rules; use AI help; use Advanced Export | Jira administrators. On the Advanced edition, an admin can also allow members of chosen Jira groups (editor groups). |
| The admin page: emergency stop, AI assist, approvals and limits | Jira administrators only. |
Build and test your first rule
The safest first rule is a manual one: it only runs when you run it.
- Start a new ruleOpen Rules and choose New rule. To start from a ready-made rule instead, choose Browse templates.
- Name itIn Rule name, type "Add a test comment". Description and Tags are optional.
- Choose the triggerUnder WHEN, set Trigger to Manual only.
- Add an actionUnder THEN, choose Add a comment and type: "Laya WorkflowOS test rule ran on {{issue.key}}." The
{{issue.key}}part is a smart value: the rule fills in the issue key when it runs. - Limit it to your test projectUnder SCOPE, pick your test project instead of All projects.
- Save itChoose Save & activate. To keep working on it later, choose Save as draft: a draft never runs, and shows a Publish button in the rule list.
- Dry run itIn the rule list, choose the play button (Test) on your rule. Enter a test issue key and choose Dry run. You see what would happen, step by step, and nothing changes in Jira.
- Run it for realChoose Run for real. Open the issue in Jira: the comment is there. Open Activity to see the run recorded.
Run your first search
- Open Search & AutomateType a JQL query, for example
project = ABC ORDER BY created DESCwith your own project key. If AI help is on, you can describe the search in plain English instead. - Run itChoose Run. The results table loads.
- Pick your columnsChoose Columns to add, remove or reorder fields, custom fields included.
- Export itExport the view you see to CSV, or export every matching issue in another format. See search, exports and reports.
