Create an estimation session
Choose Poker or Async Poker, set up the session, add your team and pick the issues to estimate.

Choose Create Session on the SprintPoker dashboard. Setting up takes two steps: the session’s type and settings, then its issues.
Step 1: choose the session type
Under Choose Session Type, pick Poker for live estimation with the whole team, or Async Poker for estimating in your own time. Which one to choose.
Step 2: the session’s settings
Under Session Configuration:
- Session Name: a clear name, for example “Sprint 34 refinement”.
- Set due date for estimates (Async Poker only): the date and time votes are due.
- Private Session: only the people you add can join. Leave it off to let others on your Jira site find and join the session.
- Allow Updating Personal Estimates (Async Poker only): participants can change their estimate after the votes are revealed.
- Join as Observer: you join as an observer, so you run the session without voting.
- Auto-start Estimation (Poker only): voting opens as soon as you pick an issue, without the Start Estimation step.
- Auto reveal votes when all players voted (Poker only): the votes show as soon as every participant has voted.
- Estimation Field: the Jira field the agreed estimate is saved to, such as Story Points or Original Estimate.
- The card values: type your own values or pick a preset scale, such as Fibonacci or T-shirt sizes. On the free app, pick one of the standard scales or a preset your site saved.
- Add Participants and Assign Participant Roles: add your team and make each person a moderator, a participant or an observer. You can change roles later, in the session.
- Enable AI Features and Auto-trigger AI response on issue selection: see AI hints.
Tick Save this configuration as my personal default to start with the same settings next time. Then choose Next.
Step 3: pick the issues
- Search, or filter by estimation, type, status, label or epic. Scroll to load more of the backlog.
- Turn on the advanced search to use a full JQL query, across every project you can see in Jira.
- Tick the issues to estimate. They gather in Selected Issues at the top.
- Select an issue to see its details on the right: description, parent, sub-tasks and other Jira fields.
Then choose Start Session to open it now, or Save as Draft to finish it later from your dashboard.
