The board is laya.net's board, running inside Jira over your Jira issues. Board anatomy and views, filters and grouping explain the parts in depth; this article covers what is specific to Jira.
The toolbar
- + Create (or press c) creates an issue on this board.
- The view switcher: Board, Backlog, Table, Timeline and Calendar.
- Swimlanes, column options (such as centring columns or resetting their widths) and the sprint filter.
- Refresh, Studio, the Manage menu, Add external board, Create master board, Share externally and Help.
Moving and ranking cards
- Dragging a card to another column runs a real Jira workflow transition. If your workflow has no transition between those statuses, the move is refused and the card stays where it was.
- Dragging a card up or down inside a column is saved to Jira's own rank, so everyone sees the same order.
- An issue whose status matches no column is shown on its own, never hidden or lost.
- Your own changes show straight away. Changes made elsewhere in Jira arrive in the background, and returning to the tab brings the board up to date. Each card can show whether its last change reached Jira.
Creating and editing issues
Open a card to see and edit its details in the side panel: its fields, description and sub-tasks. You can comment, log time and add sub-tasks there too. Field edits, transitions and comments are made in Jira as you. A few agile operations, such as ranking and moving issues between sprints and the backlog, are made by the app after it checks your own Jira permission. More in creating and editing work.
When the board is filtered to a sprint, a card you create goes into that sprint, rather than into the backlog where the filter would hide it.
Views
| View | Use it to |
|---|---|
| Board | Work in columns, with swimlanes if you want them. |
| Backlog | Plan sprints. See sprints and the backlog. |
| Table | Scan issues as rows, and change several at once. |
| Timeline | See work on a time axis. |
| Calendar | See work by date. |
Change several issues at once
In Table, select rows to show the bulk bar: Change status, Change assignee, Change priority and, on Jira boards, Add label. Issues that cannot take the change, for example because of their board type, are skipped and listed.
Filters, sprints and swimlanes
- Boards open on the active sprint. Use the sprint filter to pick other sprints, or several at once.
- Filter by text, people, labels, types, statuses and priorities. Press / to jump to the filter box.
- Swimlanes group the board into rows, for example by assignee or by priority.
- Saved views keep a set of filters for one board. They live in your browser, not in your Jira account, so a new browser starts fresh.
The Manage menu
On a Jira project board, Manage offers Sprint planner, Create Jira board (on a team-managed project, Create Jira project), Create Laya board, Versions & components and Visible custom fields. Items you cannot use are greyed out with the reason: for example, Versions & components needs the Jira permission to administer the project, and Create Laya board needs a linked laya.net workspace.
The card menu
Right-click a card, or press the Menu key on a focused card, for quick actions: in the menu, S changes status, P changes priority and O opens the card.
Keyboard shortcuts
| Keys | What they do |

| c | Create an issue |
| j / k | Focus the next or previous card |

Settings kept in your browser
Some preferences are yours alone and stay in your browser: saved views, interface scale, Mission Control density, starred external boards, panel and column widths, and the welcome card. A different browser or computer starts fresh.
