Choose Create Session on the SprintPoker Dashboard. You choose the session’s type and its settings, then the work items to estimate.
Step 1: choose the session type
Under Choose Session Type, pick Poker for live estimation with the whole team, or Async Poker for estimating in your own time. Which one to choose.
Step 2: the session’s settings
Under Session Configuration:
- Session Name: a clear name, for example “Sprint 34 refinement”.
- Estimation Due Date (Async Poker only): the date and time votes are due. Everyone in the session sees a countdown; the session does not finish by itself.
- Private Session: the extension lets only the people you add join. Leave it off to let others in the project find and join the session.
- Allow Updating Personal Estimates (Async Poker only): participants can change their estimate after the votes are revealed.
- Auto reveal votes when all players voted (Poker only): the votes show as soon as every participant has voted.
- Project Estimation Configuration: the estimation field and card values each work item type uses, from the project’s Work Item Type Settings. Choose Open Project Settings to change them.
- Add Users to Session and Assign Roles: add your team and make each person a moderator, a participant or an observer. You can change roles later, in the session.
- Enable AI Features and Auto-trigger AI response on issue selection: see AI hints.
Tick Save this configuration as my personal default to start with the same settings next time. Then choose Next.
Step 3: pick the work items
Select Issues For Session lists the project’s work items by sprint, with the backlog below.
- Search, or filter by estimation, type, status, tags or parent.
- Turn on Advance Search to run one of the project’s saved queries, or a WIQL query of your own.
- Tick the work items to estimate. They gather in Select Issues at the top.
- Select a work item to see its details on the right. You can change its title, description, acceptance criteria, state, priority, assignee, tags, parent or iteration there, and add a child work item or a comment.
- Drag a work item to move it between sprints and the backlog, or to a new place in the backlog.
- In a big project the list shows only part of it, and says so. Use Advance Search to find the others.
Then choose Start Session to open it now, or Save as Draft to finish it later from your Dashboard.
