Quick answers to the questions people ask most about Laya Board for Jira. For step-by-step fixes, see troubleshooting.
Is Laya Board for Jira free?
Yes. Licensing is turned off for the app, and no feature is behind a paywall.
Do I need a laya.net account?
No. The board, its views, sprints, Board Studio and external sharing all work without one. A linked laya.net workspace adds boards from other tools, master boards, native Laya boards and more.
Does the app copy my Jira data somewhere?
Not on its own: the board reads and writes Jira directly. Two things send data to laya.net: sharing a board externally, which hosts the shared copy, and linking a workspace, which mirrors the connected projects. The trust page has the detail.
Can people see boards for projects they cannot access?
No. Boards mirrored from Jira are listed, opened and shared strictly by what each person can browse in Jira.
Does the app use AI?
No. Laya Board for Jira has no AI features of its own. AI features on a linked laya.net board are laya.net's, and the laya.net workspace controls them.
Why is a button greyed out?
Either it needs a Jira permission you do not have, and the tooltip says which, or it needs a linked laya.net workspace ("Connect Laya.net first").
Why does Jira history show the app instead of a person?
Ranking and sprint or backlog moves are made by the app after it checks your own permission, and changes made on laya.net are written back as the app by default. Field edits, transitions and comments on the board are made as you.
Somebody changed our board's look. Who did that?
Board Studio settings are shared per board across the site, so anyone who can browse the project may have restyled it.
Can guests edit a shared board?
No. A share link is read-only, and guests never save to Jira.
Where are my saved views?
In your browser, one list per board. They are not tied to your Jira account, so a new browser starts fresh.
