Navigation and the shell

Find your way around the sidebar, topbar, Home dashboard, Inbox lanes and My issues — and make the sidebar your own.

On this page

Once you are signed in, every page shares the same three-part shell: a sidebar on the left, a topbar across the top, and the page itself. Learn the shell once and every workspace, board and personal page works the same way.

The sidebar

The sidebar is organised into sections, in this default order:

  • Personal — Home, Inbox, My issues. These follow you everywhere.
  • Pinned — your pinned saved views (shown only when you have some). Each one deep-links to its board, pre-filtered.
  • @workspace — the focused workspace's surfaces: Boards, Roadmap, Initiatives, Docs, Labels, Calendar, Views, Insights and (in team workspaces only) CRM.
  • Boards — the workspace's native boards, bucketed into "Starred", "Recent" (up to 5) and "All boards" behind a "Show more boards (n)" toggle.
  • Connected — mirrored boards, bucketed into "Starred" and "All connected", each row showing the provider it is synced from.
  • Account — Profile, Security, Preferences, Notifications, Connected apps.
  • Administration — Settings, Properties, Automations, Audit.

The sidebar remembers the last workspace you focused, so the workspace section stays put while you visit personal pages like Home or Inbox. You can collapse the whole sidebar, and when expanded you can drag its right edge to resize it ("Drag to resize · double-click to reset").

Switching workspaces

The workspace switcher (labelled "Switch workspace") groups entries under "Invitations", "Personal" and "Team workspaces", and ends with a "Create a workspace" action. Pending invitations sent to your email appear right in the switcher with an inline "Accept" button.

Customise sidebar

The account button at the foot of the sidebar opens a menu containing "Customise sidebar…". The panel it opens is titled "Customise sidebar" and lets you:

  • Hide or show items with toggles — hidden items park in a "Hidden" group.
  • Drag to reorder items and whole sections ("Drag to reorder · saves automatically").
  • Collapse groups you use less.
  • Use "Reset order" or "Reset" to go back to defaults — each asks you to confirm and gives you a 6-second Undo.

The topbar

From left to right, the topbar contains:

  • Breadcrumbs showing where you are (on small screens a menu button labelled "Open navigation menu" appears first).
  • Search — placeholder "Search issues, boards…"; type at least 2 characters to search.
  • Notifications bell — its badge updates live as notifications arrive.
  • Your account chip (showing your @handle) — opens Profile, Security, Preferences, Notifications, Connected apps and "Sign out".
  • Theme toggle — cycles between light, dark and a system-following mode. On the Preferences page the same three options are labelled "Light", "System" and "Dark".

The bell also opens a notification popover with three tabs — "All", "Unread", "Mentions" — grouped into "Today" and "Earlier", with a "Mark current tab read (Alt+U)" action and an undo toast.

Home

/home is your personal dashboard across all workspaces. It shows work assigned to you, work you created, anything due within seven days, and an activity feed.

Inbox

/inbox is your full-page notification inbox, with a lane rail, a notification list and a reading pane. There are exactly seven lanes: Inbox, Unread, Mentions, Assigned, Status, Comments and Due. Mentions and Assigned are the "for you" lanes — they carry an accented count pill and drive the bell's number.

  • Switching lanes is instant — notifications are fetched once across lanes.
  • The list groups by Today / Yesterday / Earlier, with "Show read" and "Snoozed" toggles.
  • "Mark all read" is scoped to the current lane, has the keyboard shortcut Alt+U, and gives you a 5-second undo.
  • You are never notified about your own actions — with one exception: @mentions land in your inbox even if you mention yourself.

What lands here — and whether you also get an email — is controlled from your Notifications page. See Notifications and email digests.

My issues

/my-issues is a personal, cross-workspace list of the work you touch. It has four tabs — assigned, created, subscribed and activity — each with a live count, and rows are grouped by Overdue, In progress, Todo, On hold, Done and Cancelled. The subscribed tab includes a "Why you're here" column explaining each row: Assigned, Created, Mentioned or Following.
